Ranae Rose's "Officer Next Door (Lock and Key #1)" + Wolf Gang's "Black River"

I discovered Ranae's work just under a year ago when I read an ARC of "Hell Without You." The fact that I discovered a romance with a Marine that was good, was a surprise, to say the least. As the wife of a soldier, I find the idea behind a lot of military based stories to be just...ugh. Most are just...unrealistic, over-romanticized, ugh. And I've read more than my fair share of romance novels where there's no plot, just sex. No spell check, no grammar check...you've probably been there (says the girl who just overused the heck out of some ellipses).

ANYWAY. I started talking to Ranae online and she's ridiculous amounts of nice. I read some of her Inked in the Steel City series and really enjoyed those as well, but I was sad to find her part way into an already started series. But then that series ended and she started a new one, "Lock and Key," and I'm in that one from the beginning.

From Goodreads:

How can anyone resist temptation when it’s right next door?

Riley County North Carolina has a lot to offer: coastal views as far as the eye can see, and men in uniform who are even more gorgeous. Home to the most notorious prison in the state, Alicia’s new hometown is crawling with men who carry their own handcuffs and know how to use them – like Officer Liam Alexander, her one and only neighbor. After catching him out of uniform, she can’t resist pausing to enjoy the show. When Liam’s Southern charm drives him across the property line, life gets hotter than the Carolina summer could possibly account for. Unfortunately, there’s a dark side to life in the coastal haven, even with an officer next door.

Coordinating special events at a historic – and supposedly haunted – plantation is enough to have Alicia questioning her senses and her sanity, but the spirits of the past take a backseat to a pair of escaped convicts who blaze a trail of mayhem across Riley County. Not even the most intense chemistry can survive the perils that make a sunny seaside town a dangerous place to be after dark … can it?

Book 1 in the Lock and Key Series.

I should enter a disclaimer here, and that is that I live in NC right now, and it's so not me. Because of that, I had a tiny bit of prejudice against an NC based book, but that's silly, and I like Ranae, so I read it, and it was great!

This book is really suspenseful - I didn't see that coming. There's a large cast of great characters - fun, kind, caring, great people. The romance is steamy, the story moves quickly, and I already can't handle waiting for the next one!

The above pic was stolen from Ranae's website, here. I was lucky enough to win this very cool bracelet! It was a little awkward when my seven year old wanted to wear it, but otherwise, very cool :)

If you want to go try some of Ranae's stuff and some other author's stuff, there's a $.99 set here!
